It is cheaper than ever to create your own music easily at home on your computer. Learn how to use the Apple program Garage Band; learn to create, edit, and mix your own music in this free instructional video series.

A great place to start a new song is with a beat, or a drum section. Then you can add layers on top of your beat to create a more complex song. Garageband provides drum loops that are easy to use.

Your song is starting to take shape now. You can create some tension with your loops in GarageBand by varying how your song develops over time. So, rather than a simple repetition of loops, you can create what's called a call and response, where the tracks play off each other.

With all these elements in place, you're well on your way to a great song. Garageband makes it easy. But just like you wanted a clever intro, you'll want to come up with a way to end your song. An ending can provide resolution and let your audience know the song is coming to a close. Gradually fading out is a great, if a little old-fashioned, way to end your song.

If you play the electric guitar, you can plug it right into your Mac and lay down a solo track or play along with a song you've already started in Garageband. Just connect your guitar to an adapter and connect the adapter to your Mac.

After you've jammed with your song for a while, you can record your guitar part as a real instrument track with your guitar connected to your Mac and a real instrument track selected.

You can give your song texture by adjusting individual tracks to become louder and softer to emphasize particular moments. With GarageBand, this process is easy and yields professional-sounding results.

Adding music to iMovie projects is a great way to create ambiance for your movie. With Garageband, you can create your own music for your movies. You can also add sound effects and enhance the sound recorded with your movie. When you're finished, you can export your movie to share it in a number of ways.
